John enlisted in the civil war and ended up in the navy. He had his training on the Princeton (I'll heve to check that name for sure) That was an old Friggat that was docked in Philadelphia for the purpose of taining salors for the "90 Day Wonders" the navy was building to blockcade the Southern coast and catch the blockade runners. William and James were also in the war. As I recall William was a sailor and James a foot soilder.

Mom has: It was thought by a grandson that there were only 3 children. The only record I have is of children #2,4,&5. At one time some sisters of husband went to Kansas and it is possible some of these children went west to join a relitive by the name of Hugh Maudsley.
All these children are said to be born in Gloucester N.J. but they have no birth records before 1900 from that town.

Some records have her as Emerick and some as Haple. There is some confusion if this is a previous marriage name or maiden name. Because of The William Emerick thing I think she was married before she married Ruben.
As per mom----I went to Lancaster and talked with a very old man [caretaker of cemntery] and he said Christann's maiden name was Harple [he was Ambrose Harple] and she married a man by the name of Emerick or Emmerick as #1 and had son William by him and he died of flue. Than she married Giberson.
Death certificate of chrildren said her last name Herbel.Mom has her last name as Herbeb
