He left with wife and children for Oelitschorsch Germany Oct 1671 with the rest of the Anabaptist refugees. By Jan 1672 he was living at Ibersheim with his family and his father. Anna's brother Hans Staufeer lived at Ibersheim and later Alsheim before leaving for PA in November of 1709. Two of his children later lived at Kurpfalz Germany. Anna left money to her brother Hans in 1707 which may indicate that she died that year.

They reached Germantown, which was six miles west of Philadelphia and here he continued his profession till in 1720 he purchased land in Oley Twp Berks Co. where he permanently settled, residing and practiced medicine until his death. He was the first medical doctor in Berks Co. His tract of land is situated where the Bertolet Mill now stands in the city of Reading.John Murray says he moved from Switzerland because of Amish persecution. He moved to Mimelgart Germany where the 3rd oldest of six children was born. Came to American in 1751 on ship Queen of Denmark. He settled first in Heidelberg Berks where he cont his medical practice later he moved his family to Salisbury Twp Lancaster. Christian Blank came on the same ship with him.
